- When an individual has been binge drinking, a withdrawal syndrome can take place that includes symptoms such as an upset stomach, insomnia, headache, and an electrolyte balance, which can make a person feel sick.
- The lethal limit of alcohol in the blood for most people is around 0.40%; this amount of alcohol is roughly the equivalent of 12 drinks (for women) or 16 drinks (for men). When an individual is also taking medications such as antihistamines, opioid pain-killers, or sedatives, the lethal limit for alcohol is lowered considerably.
- Chronic alcohol abuse takes a much heavier physical toll on women than on men; alcohol dependence and related medical problems, such as brain and liver damage, also progress much more rapidly in women than in men.
